Patterns, Anyone?

Image
For this week's assignment we were asked to create a 2D pattern using inspiration from patterns we found in our everyday lives. I chose to look at items like furniture. I tried to use similar motifs from the bowl, along with something more playful like the first chair above. The result was what I'm calling a "petal". I drew the curves with the HandleCrv tool and then drew the circles individually. I tried to use Array but I wanted different sizes. What's the best way to do this? Then I added a some more petals to create a pinwheel, along with more circles to fill in some gaps. After duplicating and flipping my pinwheel, I created some abstract forms to fill in the centre. When I created the first piece for the centre, I flipped it and it wouldn't fit. I realized this had to do with how I mirrored the two pinwheels. I had to flip the pinwheel on the same line as the centre piece. Next I started to add colou

Experimental Castle

This week, we were asked to use basic functions in Rhino 5 to create an original castle. We used commands such as Polygon and Extrude to create 3D forms. For my castle, I began with a small watchtower. I made several more watchtowers and connected them with a tunnel system.  For the castle, I began with a foundation and though tit should have a few steps. I began to explore some shapes to create the body of the castle. I experimented with a sort of tunnel system that led to the second floor. I also started to make windows for the third floor and really liked with happened with the extrusions. I decided to leave the "balconies". I added several cylinder of varying sizes and heights to create the rest of the castle. Some of them intersect and I difficulties trying to split or trim the extra pieces. I had never create a dome-like surface before in this program and thought this the perfect opportunity to try it! Here is the final result.
