Who Needs a Bike?

Image
For this past week I've been working on completing my bicycle model. It was A LOT of work. I started by creating the pedals, as well as the piece that connects them to the frame. I then finished the rest of the bike frame including the cargo rack. I had forgotten to draw the fenders when I created the wheels so I made those too. Next, I began working on the bike chain. This was definitely one of the harder sections of this bike. No matter how many times I measured the pieces, things still wouldn't quite line up properly. It took a long time before I was satisfied with how accurate it looked. I started by creating the gears and two chain links. I then fit them loosely into the gear and used Array Polar to create links around the entire gear. I did this twice, first I used it to use find the right angle to pivot then second chain link around the gear. Once I figured that out it was easy enough to have the chain links fit nicely around the gear. ...

Bicycle Challenge Continues

With the wheels completed, this week I worked on the front end of the bicycle. First I began with the basket which was pretty simple. I drew it with Polyline and filleted the corners to create the wireframe of the basket. I then used the pipe command, followed by Boolean Union to join it all together.  I made the bottom piece as well as the attachment piece to finish off the basket. Because the original bike is welded together, there are many spots on that I've cleaned up. The basket was also crooked sort I straightened it out in my design. Then next section I worked on was the handle bars. I started by created the vertical cylinder which would be called the head tube. The connectors for the other parts of the frame were the same width so I just copied them, measured to size and put in place. The screws used for the wheels are the same ones used for this piece so I just copied them over as well. I drew the stem which is the piece that looks like a straw, and...

Bicycle Challenge Begins

We have now begun to draw our objects! To start mine off, I chose the wheel because there are two of them and I can just duplicate the first one. I started off by created the hub with a few simple cylinders and a filleted edge. I drew the spokes using ArrayPolar but I realized after that this was not the best way to draw them in order to get them into the right spot. For the spokes, I needed to have each one on an angle, with one end on the rim and the other ends alternating to each side of the hub. I started with one poly line as a spoke. The outside end of the line was centred with the rim, and then rotated vertically until it intersected through the centre of the cylinder on the hub.    I repeated this for the spoke that angles the other way, and the created an Array to create the rest of the strokes. I then just delete then extra lines that don't belong. I used the Pipe command the complete the spokes.  For the tires, I created a bun...
